Security features

The security features of the new €5 banknote have been enhanced and some new elements have been added, most notably a portrait of Europa (a figure from Greek mythology) in the watermark and the hologram. This portrait was chosen because it has an obvious link to the continent of Europe and also adds a human touch to the banknotes.

Feel the banknote. On the front, there is a series of short raised lines on the left and right edges. They make it easy to identify the banknote, especially for visually impaired people. The main image, the lettering and the large value numeral also feel thicker.
